How I Boosted My Fertility Naturally (Without the Overwhelm)

For months, I did everything “right” to boost fertility—obsessively tracking my cycles, eating all the so-called “fertility-friendly” foods, and following every piece of advice I could find in books and on the internet.

But instead of seeing progress, I felt worse. My energy was nonexistent, my hormones were all over the place, and I was stuck in a cycle of hope and disappointment. I kept waiting for that one thing that would finally work.

Turns out, it wasn’t about doing more— I just needed to listen to what actually worked for my body. Once I made a few key shifts, everything changed.

1️⃣ I Stopped Forcing “Fertility-Friendly” Foods and Started Listening to My Body

Not Every “Healthy” Food is Right for Your Body

What else are you supposed to do? I followed the standard fertility diet advice—plenty of whole grains, nuts, dairy, and nutrient-packed superfoods. But instead of feeling better, I felt worse.

I constantly felt bloated, sluggish, and several foods actually hurt my stomach. Like… this is healthy food, but it’s killing me to eat it.

The Game-Changer: An Elimination Diet

Instead of blindly following a list of “good” fertility foods, I paid attention to how I felt after eating them. I tried an elimination diet, cutting out nearly 10 foods that were giving me negative symptoms. I know, that feels like a lot. (Spoiler alert: I eat them ALL now. But I had to remove harmful bacteria from my gut that was causing my body to react negatively to those foods, first)

Within weeks of a gut healing plan (herbs, colostrum to support gut lining immunity, different food variety), my energy improved, my digestion felt normal again, and my body no longer felt like it was working against me.

Lowering Inflammation for a Fertility Boost

Chronic inflammation can make it harder to conceive by disrupting hormone communications throughout the body. By removing inflammatory foods and focusing on nourishment that truly worked for me, I finally started to feel like my body was on my side.

2️⃣ I Stopped Hyper-Focusing on My Hormones and Checked My Cortisol Instead

Hormones Are Often the Effect, Not the Cause

I spent so much time worrying about my estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone levels. But when they came back low, I wasn’t getting any real answers—just band-aid solutions I didn’t want. My fertility clinics answer to low estrogen was “Take this synthetic estrogen, then this shot to make your body ovulate.” But… I was already ovulating? Make it make sense.

What I wasn’t looking at? My stress hormones.

Flatlined Cortisol = Reproductive Chaos

When I finally tested my cortisol, I found out it was basically nonexistent. And here’s the thing: When your cortisol is low, your body deprioritizes reproduction. That explained why my sex drive was gone, my periods were basically only spotting, and my hormones were sooo low.

Shifting My Focus: Managing Stress for Fertility

Instead of continuing to chase hormone numbers, I turned my attention to lowering stress, supporting my adrenals, and bringing my nervous system back into balance.

This meant:

  • Prioritizing sleep and rest.

  • Saying no to things that drained me.

  • Incorporating more gentle movement instead of over-exercising.

  • Using nutrition and lifestyle shifts to regulate my stress response.

The Results: Balanced Hormones Without the Guesswork

Once I supported my body’s stress response, my hormone levels naturally started improving. My cycles regulated, my energy improved, and I finally felt like I was moving forward instead of constantly hitting roadblocks.

3️⃣ I Gave Myself Permission to Step Off the Conveyor Belt

Fertility Treatments Weren’t the Right Step for Me—Yet

When my doctor suggested starting fertility medications, I hesitated for the first time. Deep down, I knew it wasn’t what I needed—yet.

For so long, I had been following the path that I thought I was supposed to take. But I never actually stopped to ask:
✔️ Is this the right step for me right now?
✔️ Am I treating the root cause or just the symptoms?
✔️ Do I feel in control of my own body?

Zooming Out: A Functional Approach

Instead of jumping into medications, I took a step back and focused on getting to the root cause. A “root cause” functional approach and testing quite literally changed my life. I worked on lowering inflammation, managing stress, and optimizing my overall health before adding interventions that didn’t feel aligned. And guess what? I was able to get - and more importantly - stay pregnant.

The Power of Taking Ownership Over My Healing

Stepping off the conveyor belt felt like I was giving up at first. But I leaned into my intuition, and it led me to feel like I was in charge of my body again. And now, its my life’s work to help the busy woman I was not so long ago find their missing pieces and meet their baby, finally.
